What Is Your “Why?” How It All Started for Me

It seemed that the only logical solution for 21st century purposes was to employ the services of a website.  However, the immediate roadblock to this possibility was the fact that I had no knowledge of how to construct such an animal.

Honestly, all I wanted to do was offer people a way to see my coin collection.

You see, I had been seriously collecting coins since about 2017, and I had accumulated myself quite an inventory.  I was not necessarily trying to do this.  However, as my interest remained steady and my acquisition practices remained constant, I soon had a bevy that qualified for either a small gift shop or a small museum.

I thought it was a shame that others could not also enjoy the interesting pieces in my possession.  I considered the option of captivatingly displaying them in my abode and charging interested viewers a nominal fee to visually appreciate the artistic and historical value they had to offer.  However, the “cons” for this choice appeared to outweigh the “pros” by too many troy ounces.

What to do?

It seemed that the only logical solution for 21st century purposes was to employ the services of a website.  However, the immediate roadblock to this possibility was the fact that I had no knowledge of how to construct such an animal.  And although I had performed no investigation, I had convinced myself that it would cost at least $5,000 to contract someone’s services to produce a website for me.

What to do?

After living with the $5,000 black cloud image hanging over my head for several months, for reasons still unknown, in October of 2023 my feeble mind was able to “eek” out another idea:  What if I learned how to do it, and I just built the website myself?

I’m sure that Thomas Edison had this same experience over and over again as he produced invention after invention.

To this day, I am still not sure whether it was stranger that I did not think of this option sooner or that I entered it into consideration at all.  Of course, I was just as “computer confident” as the next person.  I had been working with computers and all types of software since the late 1980s.  I had been surfing the web since that superhighway became a thing in the 1990s.  I had been watching videos for forever.  However, although I was quite comfortable on the “user” side of the streaming world, I knew absolutely nothing about anything going on “behind the scenes” involving production and creation of that world.  As such, I was “streaming skittish.”  Nonetheless, I was soon living on YouTube, engrossed in every tutorial video I could find on website construction.

So how did I get from such a one-track mission to where I am today, and in such a brief period of time?  That mystery will unfold as my future blog posts hit the virtual airwaves.

However, I invite you to take a moment to consider your own impetus for whatever stream dreams you currently have.  What sparked your interest?  Why did you want to get into the streaming world?  My guess is that you would have your own story to tell as well.

See you in the next post.
